Social Media Change

Social media has changed communication in so many ways, especially just over the last few years.  The internet has grown immensely in so many unexpected ways.  When the internet had first appeared in our society there were several people who did not believe it would become anything bigger, yet, here we are using the internet a few hours a day.  Often times we use it to help us buy products, help us learn to cook, plan events, is many of our source of news, and essentially helps us communicate with other who are thousands of miles away.  Social media has helped to make this all possible and has created the ultimate spike in internet users.  There are several ways social media has manipulated our means of communication in this new era.

One of the biggest ways has been the opportunity to instant message someone you are connected with over social media.  A lot of times when people are planning a get together with a few friends they do not use their cell phone numbers to get ahold of everyone they want to invite.  Social media has made it very easy for us to message someone over their social media profile instead of worrying about whether or not you have their phone number and whether or not it is correct.  Not only can you personally instant message someone but you can mass message a large group of people you want to contact all about the same thing.  For example, when my high school graduation party was being planned we used Facebook to invite everyone to it.  At the time I did not have a Facebook account so my dad opted to use his own.  We typed in the specifics of the party information and with a few clicks of a button we were adding all the people we wanted to invite to a list and sending the notification out to each of them.  As you can see, our communication has become rapidly more efficient throughout the years.

Another way communication has been affected by social media is with our ability to share, post and repost things we see on the internet like videos, pictures, and articles.  After I post a picture on my Instagram page, people can "like" that picture if they so choose.  Right there I communicated with friends through my picture something I had done such as a hike, visiting a friend, going on a vacation or whatever that picture was showing.  After posting something on social media, the people you follow can then leave a comment under your post.  This allows for communication between you and that person who commented or a lot of times a conversation between a couple commenters.  Overall, our communication has changed in many ways because of our continual participation in social media.  Thanks to the web, we now communicate instantly with people far away and news spreads so fast and I believe that our ways of communication will continue to evolve as time goes on.
